At Leocatas Transport, we believe our role in the community extends beyond delivering freight. As a family-run business with deep roots in Tatura, we’re always proud to open our doors to the next generation and give them a glimpse into the world of transport and logistics. That’s why it was such a pleasure to welcome the Grade 6 students from Tatura Primary School for a special visit to our warehouse and operations hub.
The day gave the students an opportunity to learn about the transport industry, understand the importance of safety, and see firsthand how a modern freight company operates. For our team, it was also a chance to show how much we value community engagement and education in our local area.
A look inside a busy freight hub
As the students arrived and were given bright safety vests, they were greeted by members of our operations team who explained what goes into keeping a transport company running smoothly. From trucks being loaded with goods to pallets stacked high in the warehouse, there was plenty to take in.
The Grade 6s were fascinated by the sheer scale of the operation. They were shown how loads are carefully secured on our trailers to ensure they arrive safely at their destination, and they got to see some of the specialised equipment we use for oversized freight. It was a great way to demonstrate that moving goods is about more than just driving trucks — it’s about planning, precision and teamwork.
Learning the importance of safety
One of the most valuable parts of the visit was the focus on safety. Our staff walked the students through the gear we use every day, from hard hats and gloves to long-sleeve clothing and protective glasses.
By highlighting how safety is built into every step of the job, we wanted the students to see that protecting people, freight and equipment is always the top priority. For many, it was eye-opening to realise the amount of care and responsibility involved in moving goods across the country.
Inspiring future opportunities
For some of the Grade 6 students, the visit may have been their first real introduction to the logistics industry. While a few were already fascinated by trucks, others discovered for the first time that there’s an entire team behind every delivery — planners, schedulers, drivers, loaders and more.
We hope that by opening up our operations and answering their questions, we’ve sparked some curiosity about careers in transport. Whether they choose to become drivers, mechanics, safety officers or operations managers, the industry offers plenty of opportunities for hardworking young people in regional Victoria.
Why community engagement matters to us
At Leocatas Transport, our connection to Tatura goes back generations. We’ve grown alongside the local community, working with farmers, manufacturers, and businesses across the region. Inviting the Grade 6 students to our site is one of the ways we can give back and help strengthen those ties.
By showing the students what we do and how we do it, we aim to build trust and inspire confidence in the local freight industry. It also gives our staff a sense of pride to share their work with the next generation. Community visits like this remind us that we’re not just moving freight — we’re part of something bigger.
Continuing to support Tatura and beyond
The Grade 6 visit was a great success, and we look forward to welcoming more community groups, schools and local organisations in the future. Whether it’s sharing knowledge about safety, explaining how logistics keeps businesses moving, or simply showing kids a close-up view of a truck, we’re always keen to open our doors.
Leocatas Transport will continue to support Tatura not just as a business, but as an active member of the community. Days like this highlight the value of working together, learning from each other, and building stronger connections across our town.
